Individual therapy can help clients explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe environment. Using information from both their past and current family situation, we help clients to become more aware of the processes that may be helping or harming their well-being. Crucial to this process is the development or expansion of the belief that the client has the inner strength to make the necessary changes to their life. Individual therapy can be a powerful and life-changing event for many people, bringing relief from pain as well as hope for a happier future.
As a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist, we have received specialized training in working with couples. Our goal in working with couples is to help them feel safe, supported, and understood by each other. Couples work also includes each partner becoming more aware of the role they play in the relationship, in both helpful and unhelpful ways. We encourage couples to take a team approach as they work together toward their mutual goals.
The focus of Family Therapy is on improving relationships within the family. No one individual is singled out as “the problem”. Rather, we help family members look at the interactions between each other, and help them gain awareness of the patterns that have developed in the family. In this way, issues can be addressed in a non-blaming manner, and family members can focus on the positive changes they would like to see.
We have run numerous groups related to anger management, relationships, divorce, parenting issues, and couples financial issues. Group therapy is an effective way for many people to increase their awareness of their individual processes in a safe environment with others experiencing similar challenges. Many participants have commented on the support and comfort they receive from other group members, while also increasing their insight and skill level around particular issues. We run groups on an as-needed basis.
